Phew! A busy week 6 had gone!

Wednesday (29/10) - Graves' Disease Presentation
Thursday (30/10) - Retinoscopy Assessment
Friday (31/10) - Submission of Fundus Diagrams

Can't believe I manage to do it all! It's been a tiring week for me. I've not been to shopping in weeks and I finally get to go shopping after handling in my Fundus diagram. In case you wonder what is a fundus, this is it:

Imagine you have to look into the eye of one of your friends for more than 10 freaking hours, through the pupil of the eye and draw the picture of it like above! My draft is a wee bit like this...

... and i have to colour it! There's a lot of work to do!

Anyway, the 'gift' from the hard work is that i excel in doing ophthalmoscopy!! It is very important to see the back of the eye if anyone suffers from a chronic disease.

Each time when i go shopping , I would end up buying something before I go home. That is a RULE!! That could be buying a mini pan, Ben & Jerry's Core Sundae, or even a Winnie The Pooh Glass!! NYEHEHEHE!!

To celebrate the end of a busy week, me and my friends to celebrate Halloween!! We went out for dinner at Chinese Restaurant, 龙凤楼,booked a room and had karaoke. Here are some pic to enjoy:

I had a lot of fun, with different types of costume! Whee~~~

Autumn?!

The internet connection in my flat is crap this weekend. I have to come to the library to do my work.

AND!! The weather over the week is really horrible!! It was windy (very!) and heavy rain! Umbrellas dont work well here. After each heavy rain, you can see lots of broken unbrella by the bin. UMBRELLA REALLY DON'T WORK WELL HERE IN SCOTLAND! It is cold. I miss the nice sunny weather of Autumn with cool breeze running through my face.

I am now in the library and looking through the weather forecast at http://uk.weather.yahoo.com to check out the weather out there and see if I can go home. I don't want to walk in heavy rain, it is pathetic! Ok, back to the point. I found this funny thing:
Do u see that?? Rain/Snow Showers on Tuesday?? With high temperature of 3'C and low temperature of 0'C?? It's Autumn now and the weather looks like winter! It's going to be freaking cold. But I think is impossible to get snow in an Autumn day. We only get snow after January until spring.
I've never been so concern about weather back in Malaysia. Being in a four-season country, Glasgow is possible to have rain in the morning, sunshine in the afternoon, windy in the evening and snow at night!! Kinda weird, aye?
Well, hope there's going to be good weather during Halloween.

Eiffel Tower

When you look at this, you will think of Paris. It's the landmark of France as well. It's the most famous and well-known EIFFEL TOWER!

It is amazingly pretty that when you look at it with your real eyes are different from what you see from the above picture. It is magnificent! Before I went there, I thought it's just a huge telecommunication tower and the landmark of Paris. It totally change the way I think!

YOU, out there, if there's opportunity, must go to Paris one day! It might not the prettiest city but it's worth visiting. REMEMBER to bring your €€€ as it's going to cost more than London.

I will blog again soon.

BTW, I am now blogging in my 'funny' looking eye. Again, I got my left eye dilated again for clinical purposes as part of my course. It's not going to anything bad and don't feel scared when you are being asked to dilate your eyes. Just make sure they check your intraocular pressure before and after the dilation. I am now going through what my patients are going to experience in future.

I need to get back to my studies now and will update soon!

BYE!!

Dilated Pupil

Hi everyone!

I know i've not been updating my blog for ages!!

Now I am writing this blog with one of my eye being dilated. Means the my pupil (the centre black circle within the iris which allows light to go into the eye) is bigger than how it's suppose to be. I am writing this just for general interest.

This is the normal right eye of how the pupil size is suppose to be. It would be smaller under strong light. My normal pupils can say to be quite big.

However, after putting some drops, the pupil of my left eye is bigger. We did this for clinical purposes, just to use ophthalmoscope to see the fundus (back of the eye - basically the retina).

Under normal circumstances, the pupil size must be equally the same. If there's anyone in an accident has pupil of different sizes, he/she might be suffering from head injuries as well as concussion.

After one of my pupil is dilated, the things i see seems to be a wee bit funny and blurry, especially when i go from a darker place to a brighter place. The dilation would be gone maximum of 24 hours and if it's quick, the drops would only last for a couple of hours. My lecturer, Dr Loffler said we might not be able to read for a couple of hours, but it's all seems fine to me right now.

It was a fun clinical experience which we did it in our very own Eye Clinic of the university. There's a lot of cool stuff in there which we would need to learn.

Anyway, THIS IS A VERY SPECIAL CLINICAL THING AND SHOULD NOT TRY THIS AT HOME WITHOUT THE SUPERVISION OF OPTOMETRIST IR OPHTHALMOLOGIST!

p/s: I promise I will update my blog soon with more interesting stuff!

Taste of Malaysian in Glasgow

There's a new Malaysian Restaurant open in Glasgow. RUMOURS KopiTiam.
Second post about this Rumours Kopitiam, click here!

Of course, I cannot resist for food. Went there with my flatmates for a try-out. I miss a lot of food back home and I am really happy that I am going HOME soon!! Yeah!!

Yeap, the most traditional food of Malaysia, NASI LEMAK! When I first see it, makes me feeeeels like home. I've not eaten Nasi Lemak for ages!! There it is! The taste, just irresistable! (I might be exaggerate a wee bit because I've not had it for a while!) It was a huge portion that when I finish them, my stomach bloated! In Malaysia, a plate of Nasi Lemak cost from RM2 onwards. Do you know how much is this?? Its approximately RM40!! I know it's not worth the price but once you are too tempted to have it, you wont resist!

This is a closer look of it! Nasi Lemak!

Apart from that, we had Rojak. It taste exactly like what we had in Malaysia! Yummy!

My favourite drink of all, Carrot Juice. I always thought the foreigner loves this juice but it's hard to get in UK. Many people dont like it but it's just so refreshing!! BUT I still think they have to add a little bit more milk. The other one, I forget what it's call, I think it's Mango Sorbet or something. There's lil' sago in it. It's yummy and refreshing as well!

Amazingly, they also have this Malay kuih.. Taste pretty well!

I can't help to countdown number of days I am going home. I will still miss lots of things in Glasgow as well: friends, shopping, food, weather and travel.

I sound like food-critic in this blog. Apart from Malaysian food, they also have Singapore dishes as well as Thai dishes. The most important of all is that they do not have SARAWAK LAKSA!! I miss that most!

Sarawak Laksa, Sotong Kangkong, Satay, Pisang Goreng, Kolo Mee, Beef Noodle, Sio Bee,... wow! There's a lot of food I wanna eat! I must make sure I dont put on much weight after I go back home!!

St Andrews, Fife, Scotland

12 April 2008

Went St Andrews as a trip with my flatmates. 6 of us. It was organised my International Student Surport Service (ISSS) of my university. It was only £10.00. It's pretty cheap that includes transport and visits to Castle and Cathedral. Here are some pics to enjoy!

Guys and Girls!

It was a gloomy and freaking cold day. It's me and the beach!

Blooming Flowers of Spring!

University of St Andrews. This is where Prince William used to study for his Bachelor Degree.

Those are the pictures taken at Castle Ruin of St Andrews.. It was a ruined castle so i see anything nice about that place, apart from it's nice scenery.

Cathedral Ruin of St Andrews

Lunch break at a wee restaurant in town

Small town centre of St Andrews

Golf course of St Andrews. But I still think any golf course in Malaysia is prettier than this. Probably is because the grass are a wee bit yellowish because it's just right after winter.. Should be prettier in Summer. This is the most famous Golfing area in United Kingdom!

That's all for now.. There should be more coming up!

Cheers!
